The challenge of translating this rich and dreamlike universe onto the screen was what interested me most about ‘The Herring’. How do you translate the ‘narrative of panic’ into a three-minute play? Was I interfering in one of his most political works?
I particularly enjoyed working without dialogue. I took on the responsibility of treating the image as an exclusive vehicle of cinematic language.
